First Book receives Kapnick Award
February 12, 2013
First Book-Collier County received the 2013 Harvey Kapnick Award from the Community Foundation of Collier County
The award was presented to FBCC’s Chair and Co-founder, Joanne Wyss, by Kathleen Kapnick at the Foundation’s annual Celebration of Philanthropy luncheon.
First Book-Collier County is a leading chapter of the award-winning national nonprofit organization, First Book. It was formed in 2005 to provide new books to children in need. It now purchases and distributes new books to more than 6,800 disadvantaged children a year. The books are distributed monthly to children in pre-K head start programs as well as in kindergarten, first- and second-grade classrooms in Title I Collier schools. In total, books are distributed monthly in more than 380 classrooms. The books go home with the children and are theirs to keep.
