The Literarian Award, now in its 10th year, honors individuals for a lifetime of achievement in expanding the audience for literature. Previous recipients include Dr. Maya Angelou and Terry Gross of NPR’s Fresh Air.
With Zimmer at the helm, First Book — a Washington, DC-based nonprofit social enterprise — has distributed more than 118 million new books to children in need.
NBF Executive Director, Harold Augenbraum, noted, “Hundreds of thousands of people across the country have been touched by Kyle Zimmer’s vision that the barriers to reading should come down. Her work on behalf of readers has been exemplary and will have long-lasting effects.”
