A “starfish” for a literary organization called First Book
STARFISH! In the past seven years it has given more than 350,000 books to pre-kindergarten through second-grade students in Head Start and Title I school programs.
No wonder First Book will be honored by the Community Foundation of Collier County with the Harvey Kapnick Award for philanthropy.
First Book forges ahead next month with the distribution of 6,800 Dr. Seuss books — on the author’s 109th birthday anniversary.
Explains Nora Kolmer, co-chair of development and First Book board member, “Our mission is to provide a steady stream of new books to children in need, which addresses one of the most important factors affecting literacy — access to books.”
